Definition of Dua

Dua is an Arabic word which literally means supplication or call, but in the religious sense it means to ask for something from Allah (usually during worship).

Dua is a great form of worship and there are many verses and hadiths about its greatness and excellence.  One of the wisdom in the greatness of prayer is that prayer is an expression of our love for Allah (S.W.T) , a sign of our obedience to His glory, a manifestation of our trust and confidence in His knowledge, power and grace, It is the confession and proof of our faith the more we ask from Allah, the more we might feel closer to Him.

Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said

‘Let one of you ask his Lord for his every need, even until he asks Him for the strap of his sandal when it breaks.

It is an important part of our faith and belief. We ask from Almighty Allah for everything that we want in our life no matter its how big or small.

There are various Dua with different purposes in the Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet s.a.w. We're largely encouraged to recite these Dua from both sources for our benefits in both worlds. Also, we can personalise our Dua by making it in our own words and in a language we're comfortable with for better contemplation. Indeed if our expressions in the Dua may sound opaque or not well organized, Allah s.w.t. knows our intentions.
